76ers Roster 2013

The Rise and Fall of the Philadelphia 76ers: A Tale of Two Decades

The Glory Days

In the early 1980s, the Philadelphia 76ers were one of the most dominant teams in the NBA. Led by Julius Erving, Moses Malone, and Charles Barkley, the Sixers won three NBA championships in a five-year span from 1981 to 1986.

However, the team's success began to decline in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Erving and Malone retired, and Barkley was traded to the Phoenix Suns in 1992. The Sixers struggled to find a consistent identity and were unable to return to their former glory.

The Dark Ages

The 2000s were a particularly dark period for the Sixers. The team finished with a losing record in 10 of the 14 seasons from 2000 to 2014. The Sixers also went through a series of coaching changes, including the firing of Doug Collins in 2013.

The team's fortunes began to change in 2014 when they hired Brett Brown as their head coach. Brown led the Sixers to their first playoff appearance in six years in 2018. The team also drafted Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, two of the most promising young players in the NBA.

The Future

The Philadelphia 76ers are once again one of the most promising teams in the NBA. Embiid and Simmons are both All-Stars, and the team has a strong supporting cast. The Sixers are poised to make a deep playoff run in 2022 and they look like they are on their way to returning to their glory days.
