Morehouse Maroon Tigers Fall to Benedict College, 74-67
Demetrius Calip II Leads Scoring Effort with 12 Points
Tigers Drop to 1-1 in SIAC Play
Morehouse College's men's basketball team fell to Benedict College, 74-67, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Forbes Arena. Demetrius Calip II led the Tigers with 12 points in just 16 minutes of action.
Morehouse (1-1, 0-1 SIAC) was led by Calip II's 12 points, while Malik Chandler added 11 points and Robert Rozier chipped in 10 points. Benedict (2-0, 1-0 SIAC) was led by Justin Ravenel's 21 points, while Cameron Wheeler added 16 points and Jaylan Scott contributed 11 points.
The Tigers got off to a slow start, trailing 10-2 in the early going. However, Morehouse battled back and took a 25-22 lead with 7:24 remaining in the first half. Benedict regained the lead and held a 39-33 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Benedict extended its lead to 12 points, 52-40, with 13:34 remaining. Morehouse rallied to cut the lead to four points, 64-60, with 5:06 remaining. However, the Tigers could not get any closer as Benedict held on for the 74-67 victory.
The Tigers will return to action on Monday, November 14, when they travel to Albany State University for a SIAC matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
