Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) is a protein tyrosine kinase that plays a crucial role in cellular processes such as adhesion, migration, proliferation, and survival. Overexpression and activation of FAK have been implicated in the progression and development of several advanced-stage solid cancers.

FAK's Involvement in Cancer

FAK is associated with various oncogenic signaling pathways and promotes cancer cell invasion, metastasis, and resistance to therapy. Its overexpression has been observed in numerous cancer types, including breast, lung, colon, and pancreatic cancer.

FAK's Immunoregulatory Function

Recent research has also uncovered FAK's involvement in the immunoregulation of tumors. Studies have shown that FAK modulates the type-II interferon response, which plays a critical role in antitumor immunity. By regulating the expression and activity of interferon-stimulated genes, FAK can influence the tumor microenvironment and immune cell infiltration.

Further investigation into the immunoregulatory function of FAK in cancer, particularly in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), could open up new avenues for therapeutic interventions that target both cancer cell signaling and immune responses.
